About Karen

Public Service

Karen has served as a member of the Danville Town Council since 2002, including four terms as the Mayor of Danville in 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2020. During that time, Karen has served on a number of local and regional boards, including:

  • Contra Costa Transportation Authority

  • TRAFFIX Congestion Relief Agency

  • Central Contra Costa County RecycleSmart

  • East Bay Economic Development Alliance

  • California League of Cities - Revenue & Taxation

  • Contra Costa Mayors' Conference Chair

 

Additionally, Karen has served in a number of community roles:

  • Founder and Past President of the SRV Exchange Club

  • Board member for the SRVUSD

  • President, Board Member, Referee, and Coach for the Mustang Soccer League

  • President of the San Ramon Valley Historical Society

  • Docent for the Museum of San Ramon Valley Board

Personal Life

Karen is married to Tony Stepper and is the mother of two Monte Vista graduates. The families of her son Shawn and daughter Shannon live locally. You will see Karen with her 4 elementary school grandkids at events in Danville.

Karen has served nine years as a school board member for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and five years as a Children's Hospital volunteer.

Karen is a CPA in San Ramon and was formerly a high school mathematics teacher.
